Professional Synopsis
David von Oeyen has over thirty five years of experience planning, designing and managing the architectural design process for various healthcare, institutional and commercial facilities. Two of his healthcare projects won national American Institute of Architects/Modem Healthcare Design Honor Awards in 1992 and 1993 and two others received national AIA/Modern Healthcare Design Citation and Certificate of Merit Awards in 1996 and 2000. His Los Angeles Courthouse Project won a national AIA Academy of Architecture for Justice Certificate of Merit Award in 2005. His additional facilities design and project management experience includes other institutional, mixed-use commercial/residential, office, hospitality, civic and educational facility assignments.
David began a partnership as VON OEYEN Architects with his son, Geoffrey von Oeyen, in 2011 after starting his own architectural design and planning practice in Los Angeles in 2007. Prior to his own practice, David was a Principal at Leo A Daly, Associate Principal and Studio Director/Designer at Harley Ellis Devereaux and Associate Partner and Director of Design for Langdon Wilson for 15 years. Previous positions included being a Principal/Senior Designer at Anshen & Allen, Vice President/Studio Director/Senior Design Architect at Ellerbe Becket, Senior Project Designer for Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Associate/Project Designer for Rossetti Associates, and Project Designer with William Kessler and Associates.
His key design and planning work has been honored with more than twenty AIA Design Awards, is active in the AIA Healthcare and Justice Committees, and has been widely published in architectural and industry journals.
Personal Synopsis
David von Oeyen lives in Malibu, California with his wife, Nancy Zanolli von Oeyen, a professional musician and retired soprano with the LA Master Chorale and LA Opera. They have two grown children, Geoffrey von Oeyen, David’s Architectural Partner who was formally an Associate with Frank Gehry Partners in Los Angeles and Andrew von Oeyen, an international concert pianist who lives in Los Angeles and Paris. David has had extensive national and international professional travel with Master Plans and Buildings with his design throughout the United States: California, Kansas, Texas & Michigan; East Asia: China, Korea & Singapore; and the Middle East: Kuwait, UAE, Bahrain & Armenia.
